Announcing the appointment of Mr. Peter Weltman as Ontario's new Financial Accountability Officer

TORONTO, May 7, 2018 —The Financial Accountability Office of Ontario (FAO) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Peter Weltman, as the new Financial Accountability Officer of Ontario, effective immediately. As per the Financial Accountability Officer Act, 2013, Mr. Weltman’s appointment is for an initial term of five-years following which he may be re-appointed for another five-year term.

“I feel honoured to have been selected to serve as Ontario’s second Financial Accountability Officer,” says Weltman. “I look forward to this exciting opportunity - working with the MPPs, staff, and stakeholders, as we move forward.”

“My office's objective will be to provide MPPs with the economic and financial analysis they need to fulfill their core constitutional responsibility of holding the government to account,” continues Weltman. “Our reports will continue to inform debates about government policy and programs and help MPPs better respond to questions that their constituents may have about Ontario’s economy and finances.”

Mr. Weltman has extensive experience working at the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) in Ottawa most recently serving as Director of Executive Services, Communication and Parliamentary Relations to the Parliamentary Budget Officer. He also serves as President of the Canadian Chapter of the International Cost Estimating and Analysis Association (ICEEA).

Before working at the PBO, Mr. Weltman worked in different capacities for Industry Canada, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) and the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS).
